Bourbon Street Jazzband – Danish jazz since 1956
Bourbon Street Jazzband starts its 67th season this year. There are orchestras in Denmark that claim to be older. We won't argue against that, but there are certainly no other Danish jazz bands that have maintained such stable lineups for so many years; an unbroken active career of impressive length.

Through all the years with the trumpeter Gerhard Ellerbæk as the distinctive voice at the front. A musician's musician, renowned for his stylish and melodious playing.

A hobby for big boys turned into a long-lasting success, and throughout the years the Bourbon Street Jazzband has mingled at the top of Danish jazz. This has resulted in 12 record releases so far, as well as trips to festivals in Europe, America, Africa and Asia.

The permanent bastion has for many years been Silkeborg, and the orchestra was also in 1966 a birth helper for the "Riverboat Jazz Festival", and has performed here every single year since the beginning.

The Bourbon Street Jazzband plays traditional jazz, boogie-woogie and swing in a very outgoing and dance-friendly style, seasoned with great wind arrangements, a compelling rhythm group and good vocals.

In addition, the orchestra emphasizes serving the music with humor and topical comments. In short: there really is something for every taste!
This has resulted in collaboration with many of jazz's big names. We mention in turn: Al Grey, Mr. Acker Bilk, Monty Sunshine, Roy Williams, Leroy Jones, Jacques Gauthé, Sammy Rimington, Adrian Cox and from Denmark i.a. Daimi, Bjørn Tidmann, Otto Brandenburg, Niels Stuart, Nikolai Bøgelund and Jesper Thilo.
